"Comfort Women" Poster

Written By: Cathy Chuang

There are many ways to show support for “Comfort Women,” whether it be through social media or simply by spreading the word. This poster is a prime example of support by displaying information, and with style.

This poster was created for the Live Well, Take Action program. The following interview with the minds behind this brilliant piece will divulge more about the poster, and what the topic of “Comfort Women” means to them. (The following interview has been edited for clarity.)

Q: Who created this poster?

A: Amy Sun created the poster.

Q: Why was this topic the one you decided on showcasing?

A: First of all, all of our teammates showed huge interest in this particular

topic. We were all moved by the short video that Judy showed us.

Additionally, the nationality of major victims is same as that of ours,

which sparked even more passion to explore the topic.

Q: What does this topic mean to you, and what are your thoughts on it?

A: With the development of our investigation, "Comfort Women" became

not only the topic of a school project, but also a responsibility that we

believe, as young people, we should take. Taking action is a powerful

thing, and it can heavily affect society.

Q: Is there any special reason behind the design of the poster?

A: As you can see from the poster, the two girls that stand on either side

of the older lady are considered to emphasize how young those victims

were when they were sent to be sex slaves. Also, [the] two girls

represent two different countries who were heavily affected by the events

involved with the “Comfort Women,” China and Korea.

This interview with the creators will have undoubtedly clarified some things, and shown their desire to do right for the survivors of the “Comfort Women” system. It is a hope that this poster will encourage others to spread awareness on the topic of “Comfort Women” and how much of an effect it had not only on history, but on society today.
